It was not a pleasant morning for the people living in a particular block of the New York City tower. The building witnessed a fire, the reason for which is still unknown!

Lucas Silverio, a college student did not think twice before heading into the fire and saving the residents who were stuck inside. At first, he took his grandmother to a safe zone and then, went ahead to rescue others.

His eyes went straight to a three-year-old, Yasleen McDonald who was desolated in that situation and couldn’t find a way back to her mother. Silverio rushed upstairs to the 14th floor of the building to get the little one out of that chaos.

Unfortunately, the two of them could not make it out of the building and fainted on their way. They lost their consciousness due to the heavy smoke inhalation. This led to them getting attacked by fire. They had severe burns covering 80% of their bodies.

Both of them were taken to the hospital as they were still breathing. However, despite all the efforts, they lost their lives after a few days. Our hearts break for them and their families!

Silverio who was on his way of becoming a health aide deserves the title of a superhero! He did not think about his life even for a second. He knew what he was getting into and still did it!

His cousin, Jesse Alvarez was also present during the incident. He took care of their grandmother while Silverio went upstairs to save the 3-year-old. Alvarez later said in an interview, “He was a wonderful human being, A heart of gold. His heart was the size, it couldn’t fit in his body.”

The whole fire scene led to panic among the residents. Eleven people suffered injuries.
We pray for both the grieving families who lost their children in the tragedy. It is tough for anyone to be in this phase.

This world is blessed to have people like Lucas Silverio who are ready to serve the society in whatever way they can, even risking their lives to help others!
