Inspiring Mother-Daughter Duo Graduated Medical School Together

Kudji mentioned that they had put the child in the water to get the body temperature down. She told the UMHS endeavor about the same. She had asked the child about how he was handling but she didn’t think that he was doing very well. She also remembered that she got so crabbed that her mom had to ask a stranger for health care assistance.

Henceforth, this experience had oscillated deeply with Kudji Sylvester. She believed that if things could be different, they would only have been with a doctor’s expertise. She wanted to be a doctor when she was young. Nonetheless, when she was a senior at Tulane University, then she became pregnant. Goodable tweeted a photo of Kudji, holding her newborn daughter, Jasmine.

She had to put her dreams of being a physician on hold to support her daughter. After getting an undergraduate degree in biology, she became a nurse and was registered as a nurse practitioner. Goodable also wrote about the same, that to make ends meet she got a job as a nurse and worked long hours to put food on the table.

When her daughter went off to college, she thought of it as the perfect time for her to follow and pursue her suit. She got enrolled at the University Medicine and Health Sciences on the eastern Caribbean island of St. Kitts at the age of 43. She started her medical school two years later, though immediately after she completed her undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans.

They both inspired and supported each other throughout, even though they were spaces afar. They made time for Skype calls and studied together. Kudji also shared photos of herself and her mother of what she thought would be her pre-commencement ceremony. They both processed for their corresponding graduations from their medical schools.

Jasmine while posting about how overwhelmed she was regarding this, mentioned that they both finally succeeded at it while beating all the odds. It was such a symbolic moment for them which couldn’t be shared with all of their closed ones, but they made it. She said that she was so proud and couldn’t wait to work with her mom.

They had a piece of intriguing news to share that they both were matched at the residency positions within the LSU health system, which was just two hours away from one another in their home state. National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) also tweeted about the same when the mother-daughter duo interviewed for their article.

Jasmine said that her mother is the most inspiring person in her life and she was one of the only reasons that she could make it and she was where she was. Kudji also referred to Jasmine as being her rock throughout this journey of hers.
