11-Year-Old Girl Turns Genie For The Elderly In The Nursing Home As She Fulfills Their Wishes

Inspiring April, 19, 2024

There are so many nursing homes out there which are helping the elderly people with their daily requirements as they can’t pay for private accommodations. But when a closer look is given to the nursing facilities which are government-funded, we find out that the elderly people living there are not given enough money for “extras”.

These nursing homes give $40 per month to the people living there. We all know that $40 is not an amount that can buy all of the basic necessities required by elderly including snacks, haircuts, hearing devices and dog food.

An 11-year-old Ruby Kate Chitsey has been following her mom when she visits the five nursing homes in Harrison, Arkansas. Her mom’s visits to the nursing homes to assist the residents are possible because she runs a company related to this.

Ruby Kate liked visiting the elderly people with her mom as she was learning a lot from them. But on one such occasion, she met a resident Pearl, and that meeting proved to be life-changing for her as well as for Pearl.

Pearl was sitting in her room with her eyes glued to the window and staring outside with an intense look on her face. She caught Ruby Kate’s attention and she went ahead and asked Pearl what was she staring at with such sad eyes. Pearl opened up to her and told her that the dog she sees outside was her dog which she had for 12 whole years. She wanted to see it and that seemed quite impossible to her as she could not afford to take care of the dog on her own. Her only wish is to be able to have more visits with her dog and nothing else.

We know this is quite disheartening for all but what happened next is sure to uplift your mood! The first thing that popped in the mind of Ruby Kate after hearing Pearl’s wish was to help her in any way she could even if it meant that she had to give her piggy bank money. This 11-year-old is giving us some serious life lessons!

She took another step in this direction of helping the elderly people and made a list of the three wishes every resident had. She asked each and every person in the home and brought a smile on their faces with her simple question which was, “If you could have three wishes, what would they be?”

This sweet activity made her realize that all these residents wished for the smallest of things and we just believe a lot more in “Happiness lies in the little things”, because of these people! If you are not able to guess what these little things are, then we are here to tell you some of their dreams. One resident had a good-fitted pant as a wish. The one really sweet wish was to be able to go to the water park just to observe other families and see them have a good time. Most of the residents wished to eat fast food.

We all just need to be a little more grateful as what we take for granted is a luxury for many! Ruby Kate was determined to help all these elderly people and her mother was standing right by her side at all times. The Three Wishes project was then launched in November by Ruby Kate which aimed at raising funds for the residents of nursing homes. Since the launch, the amount raised is $30,000 through GoFundMe account and Ruby Kate has managed to buy all the necessities of the elderly people.

Ruby Kate has just motivated us to do more good and even if it’s not on a big scale, it still carries equal importance!
